Myself as a professional worker

I consider myself to be a very focused and hard working individual when it comes to working. Throughout my college education I managed to consistently take more than the required number of units and was able to handle the workload and receive good grades. This dedication to efficiency and achieving good results is strongly representative of my character. When something needs to get done, I buckle down and I do it. When I do not know how to get something done, I learn. I am a self starter who takes initiative to learn and excel in new areas.

My favorite example of this is that during my time working for Applied Technologies Center, I was asked to create forms using a program called Adobe LiveCycle. It was a program I had not used before, but I made an effort to learn quickly. When more was asked of me, I continued to teach myself and I soon found that I was the go-to guy for forms. I even taught myself to code using Javascript to be more effective.

Myself as a writer

I enjoy reading and writing above all other things and in many ways this has made me a very driven, focused, dedicated, and hard working individual (all necessary traits for a writer). Writing a novel is a daunting task, and it requires planning, dedication, commitment, and imagination. Having written two novels myself, I have a tremendous respect for anyone else who has accomplished the task.

I like to think that my creative writing is one of my most defining characteristics. My novels are something that I truly pour my heart and soul into; they are something that I work incredibly hard to create and polish until they are finished. Ironically, I also feel that a novel is never truly complete, it simply reaches a point where I can leave it alone and be satisfied with the job that I have done. In my head I am always thinking of alternative ways that stories and their characters could be written.

My Work Ethic

Never give up. A person can accomplish anything if they set their mind to it and work as hard as they possibly can to achieve their goals. The only thing that holds us back is our own lack of motivation. Even the tallest mountain is climbed one step at a time. Every novel is written page by page, word by word, letter by letter. All it takes is the will and the determination to see everything through to the end.

Further Information

What makes me unique:

Everybody is unique in their own way. What sets me apart from everybody else is my imagination. I can be focused, driven, efficient, communicative, informed, or whatever else might be necessary for a job. But all of those qualities are meant for getting a job done rather than getting a job done well. Inspiration and creativity allow for unique approaches to difficult problems. They lead to interesting and appealing final products.

What do I consider to be my greatest accomplishment:

I consider the completion of my first novel to be my greatest achievement. While I have done other things that were more recognized (graduating college) or completed works that were of higher quality (my Honors Program Thesis), the completion of my first novel will always be a personal milestone. I was in the third grade when I began chronicling the adventures of Ash and Pikachu in a spiral bound notebook. I filled that entire notebook with adventures and while the writing is only at a third grade level and the story is not my own creation, it shows my dedication to the craft of writing, a craft which I have continued ever since.

Where I Expect Myself to be in Five Years:

After spending a few years in the workforce, I can safely say that working as a technical writer is my intended career path. It is an enjoyable line of work, and I can easily see myself finding a long term position with a company that challenges me to grow. As of right now, I am not looking to settle down permanently, but I am most definitely in search of a long term job that has room for growth.

Lifetime Goals:

There are many things that I want to do or accomplish over the course of my lifetime. I have a list of people (mostly authors) that I wish to meet. I want to travel outside of the United States to countries like Japan, Egypt, Greece, and Britain. I want to own a house with an extensive library, tennis courts, a pole vaulting pit, and a room for fencing. But more than all of that, I want to be able to look back on my life and know that I lived successfully and without regrets. If I can do that, then I'll be happy.

Favorite Quotations:

  • Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit; Wisdom is knowing not to put it in a fruit salad.
  • Even the most mundane and everyday task can become an adventure with the right attitude.
  • It is not often that the real world conjures worse than what we can imagine.
  • That which makes you different makes you attractive.
  • A novel is writen page by page, one word at a time.

Surprising Fun Fact:

I have never actually read the complete Lord of the Rings book series. I mainly survive off of second hand knowledge gained from research, friends, and having seen the movies.
